9 Step Plan of the Netherlands Golf Federation (NGF)

The 9 step plan is a trajectory for golfers which they can follow from the beginning to whatever goal they may have. We have summarized that for your convenience. If you click on the 'more details' button below any of the Phases you will find a detailed description of the phase and the various steps, as well as the advice for each step.

Advice phase 1

Phase 1

Lesson: 8-12 hours. Requirements: Course Permission, NGF Rule Exam, Qualifying Score

Basic knowledge of technique, rules and etiquette

Step1

Purpose: Course Permission

Description

You take lessons with a golf professional (teacher) and get an introduction to golf and the basic principles of golf: technique, rules and etiquette. Playing safe and how to practice. If the teacher thinks you are ready, you will get your Course Permission. Also try one or more of Golf4Holland's walk-in lessons

Advice

We advise you to take a minimum of 6 - 8 hours of lessons including a course lesson.

Requirements

You must be a member of Golf4Holland before you get a job permit.

Step2A

Purpose: Pass the NGF Rule Exam

Description

You learn the rules and etiquette of Golf that every beginner golfer must know.

Lesson

We recommend that you practice the NGF Rule Exam here. You can do that unlimited and free of charge. At the end of each practice exam you will not only get the correct answers, but also an explanation. You will also find all possible questions that may be finalized. On the official site of the NGF you will find a comprehensive explanation of the rules and terms here. Unfortunately these options are all in Dutch. It is however possible to take your NGF Rule Exam in English and in German. Please contact Golf4Holland on 076-2011108 or info@golf4holland.nl for more information.

Requirements

You must be a member of Golf4Holland before you can take an NGF Rule Exam.

Step2B

Purpose: GVB/Handicap 54

Description

Now you have to play 9 or 18 holes with someone who has at least Handicap 54.

Lesson

Take another 2-4 hours lesson. Includes a course lesson. And play on the course where you have course permission. If you have achieved 36 stableford points, you have achieved your GVB / Handicap 54

Requirements

You must have your Course Permission and you must have passed the NGF Rule Exam

Step3

Purpose: EGA Disability 36

Description

You will hit further and more on target. You get more insight into the game and your possibilities. And that helps you to make better choices during the game.

Lesson

Take 2-4 hours class. Includes a course lesson. And play regularly.

Requirements

You must register qualifying cards with results such that you achieved EGA Handicap 36. This can be done using the Golf4Holland App (Android and iOS) and online via golf4holland.nl, after you log in.

Advice phase 2

Phase 2

Lessons:8-10 hours

Course management, improving consistency, playing tournaments.

Step4

Purpose: Handicap 28

Description

During this step you will increase your consistency in length and your game around the green. You are feeling more comfortable playing on the golfcourse, which has a very positive influence on your game. The number of bogeys will increase and the number of double bogeys will decrease. You are looking forward to playing tournaments

Lesson

We recommend you take 6 hours of lessons, including a Course Lesson. And of course check out the events of Golf4Holland events!

Step5

Purpose: Handicap 20

Description

You will become more conscious of your selection of clubs. You will be better prepared and by participating in tournaments you will increase your experience in course management, tactics and rules. You will look for other golfers to practice with on and off the golfcourse. You practice all together and you wonder how far your ambition reaches.

Lesson

We recommend 6 hours of lessons, including at least 1 course lesson. And for more fun and less costs, invite your golf buddies to join you!

Step6

Purpose: Handicap 15

Description

This is the breaking point! Here strategy and your game from 100 meters to the flag are becoming more important. Tournaments and competitions give you a taste of performing under pressure. Gradually you are adding the finishing touches and you will be a regular at the practice facilities

We recommend 6 hours of lessons, including at least 1 course lesson. Focus on the game from 100 meters to the flag and around the green. And for more fun and less costs, invite your golf buddies to join you!

Advice phase 3

Phase 3

Lessons:10-20 hours

Lowering margin of error, increase scoring game, playing (inter)national tournaments.

Step7

Purpose: Handicap 9.9

Description

You are on your way to a single handicap; a milestone! To reach this milestone you will focus on lowering your margin of error and improving your game from 50 meters to the flag. You are training with passion and you develop a good, steady routine for a more predictable result. You will be celebrating successes!

Lesson

We recommend 6 hours of lessons, including at least 1 course lesson. Focus on the short game around the green too and especially the shots from 50 meters to the flag. And for more fun and less costs, invite your golf buddies to join you!

Step8

Purpose: Handicap 4.4

Description

You have become a very intense golfer. In this step it really is all about the short game. Preventing errors in difficult situations is your challenge. You are actively trying to improve your game. Tournaments help you with your mental game. You have a game plan for your training which you made with your pro

Step9

Purpose: Handicap 0

Description

This where you are very critical of yourself and have an eye for detail. You continue to refine your mental and physical abilities to perfection. Where does the succes end for you? You are considering playing national and international tournaments by now and you are very determined in deciding in which tournaments you wish to peak.

Lesson

We recommend 6 hours of lessons, including at least 1 course lesson. It will be about small details of your game, and your mental and physical abilities. Determination is key. And for more fun and less costs, invite your golf buddies to join you!
